Direct Support Professional Job Description

The Direct Support Professional is expected to be able to assist consumers with a variety of intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Direct Support Professional is expected to maintain a caring, compassionate, professional and confidential relationship with the consumer at all times. The Direct Support Professional is expected to protect the consumers rights at all times. The Direct Support Professional is expected to be able to work a flexible work schedule that may need to be adjusted to the consumers needs and activities without notice. The Direct Support Professional is expected to implement and to have a thorough knowledge of the consumers (ISP) Individual Service Plan.


Direct Support Professional job duties:

Assists consumer with grooming and personal hygiene

Assists consumer with meal preparation

Assists consumer with shopping

Assists consumer with housekeeping and household chores

Assists consumer with doing laundry

Assists consumer with taking medications

Assists consumer with medical appointments

Assists consumer with recreational activities

Must have the physical ability to lift the consumer when needed without straining yourself

Must be able to provide transportation for the consumer at all times

Must conduct monthly safety checks at the consumers home

Must follow the consumers (ISP) Individual Service Plan

Must be certified in CPR/First-Aid & Delegated Nursing prior to working with consumers

Must be knowledgeable of how to report MUI/UI incidents  

Must be patient with consumers when they are having behavioral issues

Must complete daily, weekly and monthly documentation accurately & on time

Must attend all mandatory company meetings & trainings

Must have a valid Ohio driver's license

Must have a High School diploma or GED

Must be at least 18

Must have proof of automobile insurance

Must have reliable transportation

Must be able to pass background checks

Must pass the drug test

Must be respectful to consumers, co-workers and management at all times

Must be able to work with staff and management as a TEAM
